Thanks for hanging with me this week and welcome to day 4 of the book tour. It was so interesting to read that so many of you haven't tried fusible fleece for "Quilt As You Go". I am telling you, when you get your hands on some Bosal, you will not be disappointed, love the stuff:) It's always great to hear when I am able to be a little informative here on the blog and not just rambling into cyberspace:)
Today's stop on the book tour is the east coast and the brilliant blog of the superstar designer, Kate Spain. I was lucky enough to meet this wonderful lady for the first time at Quilt Market in Minneapolis a year ago. I had of course fallen in love with her fabrics way before and after some chats through e-mail and meeting her in person, I fell in love with the person. She is just as gorgeous as her designs, inside and out:) Stop by her blog today and add a comment because she is giving a book away too.
Kate's designs have been licensed by many big companies, I love her dishes at Crate & Barrel, bought all the paper products from Target last Christmas with her designs and the stationary is beautiful. Her fabrics are just wonderful too and I think I have made something from each of her lines. You can see the stockings from Fast & Furious Holiday in the picture above; they are made from her 12 Days of Christmas line. Her newest Christmas line is called Flurry and will be in stores very soon. I used Flurry for the square version of my new pattern Strip To Be Square. I absolutely love it and can't wait to hang it up for the Holidays.
I used Kate's Verna fabric line for one of the runners in the book. This runner got the interesting name Jelly Jar Runner. I know you are wondering why.
This runner is in the leftover chapter of the book. I was making a quilt with a Jelly roll and then I had all of these pretty little rectangles left over from the strips. They were too colorful and happy to throw away so I quickly put them together to make the runner. The thought of having the rectangles laying around my sewing room made me think of all the Jelly Jars clogging up the fridge, each with just a little bit of jelly on the bottom. I actually cleaned them out and used them up too.
I am usually this way about my fabric leftovers. If I don't find use for them right away, they get packed away and forgotten about. Until the next spring cleaning when I dig them out again and most likely end up throwing them out.
I couldn't be happier with this little gem, it looked perfect propped on Yvonne's vintage Coca Cola cooler. And now I have a matching runner to my quilt:)
This next runner is called Scrappy Daisies Runner.
This runner was also made from leftover 2-1/2" strips. I had some strips from 2 of Camille & Bonnie's fabric lines and they really worked well together. Some of my leftover strips were only 10" long, so I used 4 different fabrics for each flower. The backgrounds are all different too, but that is the beauty of scrap quilts. When you get them all put together, they just sing.
As an extra bonus it just matches my kitchen perfectly.
This little cutie is Easy Hex. It uses 2 fat quarters and some leftover 1-1/2" strips and it is a "Quilt As You Go" project.
We had two other cuties posing with this project, my daughter Svana on the right and Briar, Paula's daughter (my photographer) on the left.
It started out real cute...
..but with a truckload of candy displayed in front of your face..
..smelling sweet and delicious....
.....It just gets too tempting....
...and just fun:)
There is just something about leftovers...either you love them or you hate them. My family loves leftovers and the kids actually prefer them over regular breakfast any time! But I think there is one thing that we all agree on...that is having too many leftovers filling up our fridge and then having to throw them away is a very bad thing. I feel the same way about my fabric leftovers, just gotta use them up if I can....fast!
Today I am adding a set of my 4 new patterns to the prize packet so make sure you add a comment today. How do you feel about leftovers? Love....Hate....???

Looking forward to your new book. Your books and patterns are a number one seller in our store. Our customers love quilt as you go, sew it once and your finished. We are blessed to be able to attend Quilt Market, see you there.
Blessings.

Oh my gosh, what a beautifully colored post! I saw Jelly Jar Runner and loved the way you compared that to jelly jars left in the fridge and thought that was my favorite so far and then I saw the Scrappy Dishes Runner feeling the very same way. THEN......oooh the Easy Hex topper. I just love the hexie shape so that easily became my favorite from this post. I'm easily persuaded to change my mind. Great patterns and WOW! What a wonderful prize package you've been creating each day. Awesome of you and so nice as well.
Thank you very much for allowing us to take a peek inside your book each day. It really does look like an amazing book and one I want to own myself.

Posted by: Deb | May 27, 2011 at 07:44 AM
I cut my leftovers into squares: 2, 3, and 5 inch squares. Then I pull them out and make scrappy little things from them (or maybe I collect the squares, I don't know). I do that with some "what was I thinking fabrics and fat quarters too!

Love leftovers, but usually end up not using the fabric ones!
Posted by: shirley j. b. | May 26, 2011 at 10:29 PM
Are we talking about food leftovers or the fabric kind? lol Food leftovers are often better than the first time around due to blending of flavors--they also make for quick meals which means more time to sew! Fabric leftovers = scrap quilts!!
Posted by: Barb Colvin | May 26, 2011 at 09:48 PM
My lunch at work are the leftovers from the night before. "Cook once - eat twice" is my motto.
When using fabric in a quilt- variety in the same colorway adds extra interest.
cute pics of the girls!

I love having left overs- food means that I have actually been home, cooking has occurred and I don't have to take a sandwich for lunch. Fabric leftovers mean I have been spending time doing what I love...

I like leftovers but my husband doesn't so it makes it interesting and sometimes we have to throw out food too. I love the jelly jar runner and the story behind it! At my house it would be ice cream topping jars :) Loved all of the projects you shared with us today.

And I love leftovers. When I was growing up if you had jelly leftovers, you added milk, shook the jar and you instantly had a yummy, sweet milk shake. The best part is my grandson is doing it now and he also loves jelly leftovers!
Posted by: Angie | May 26, 2011 at 04:40 PM
Your leftover projects are inspiring. Definitly need a plan for using them as there they sit. We only cook 2-3 times a week and always prepare double (or more). We then alternate menus. It sure makes for stress free afternoons.

I never have jelly leftovers - but do I ever have scrapy leftovers as I can't throw any scraps! I am anxious to to the Hex!

I have a hard time throwing away fabric pieces yet there are times I know it is too small and needs to go. Just learning how using scraps for a project turns out great. I enjoy leftover food, it makes it so nice when you don't have time or feel like cooking. Some food even tastes better after sitting a day or two and absorbing flavor.

Loving the blog hop & am inspired by your leftovers. I can't throw fabric leftovers out as the leftovers cost as much per yard as the fabric used in quilts, but I often struggle with what to do with it - now I know!
Looking forward to the book

And your projects from leftover fabrics are equally delicious. The Jelly Jars one is so simple but yet so eye-catching. And the hexagon one is just adorable.

What great use of your fabric leftovers! I especially like the Hex table mat. There is no such thing as food leftovers in my house since I have a husband who is fond of those leftovers. I have quite a few of fabric leftovers and like you, have them tucked out of sight. Your new book is truly inspirational!

When I was first married, I usually saved leftovers, only to throw them out in a week. Now I treasure leftovers for a good meal with no prep time, or to have for lunch the next day (better than making another boring sandwich!). I also treasure fabric leftovers and love that your patterns make use of all the scraps I've been collecting! I hope this comment goes through (despite all the blogger problems of late) so I can hopefully win these great patterns! I really love the Scrappy Daisies runner - that would be first on my list!
