Off to market...

These last few days have been quite frantic to be honest. There is always more work to be done for Quilt Market than you expect, and it always stretches until the last minutes.

On top of that I developed a sinus infection this weekend so it's been quite the challenge to keep going. Hopefully I will be out of the fog by the time I have to speak to people at the show! 

We fly out to Salt Lake City in the morning so ready or not....I'll be there:)

Flair winner

I am back from my little getaway. I took my son on his senior trip with a few friends of his. We took a cruise to the Bahamas and then stayed in Miami for a couple of days after. It was a great trip. Now it´s back to reality....and back to 30 something degree weather!!

GOODBYE PARADISE!!!

1st order of business after my return was to draw a winner for the fabric bundle. I loved reading your comments and seeing if you were cool or warm...or both. I will have to graph the results for you later.

Olivia block challenge

The Challenge is ON!! All the details have been worked out and here is what you have to do to participate in this fun event:

1. Sign up to do the challenge by commenting on this post with your name and your blog if you have one. You can also send me a private e-mail (gudrun@gequiltdesigns.com) with the same information.

2. Get your hands on some Olivia fabric, specifically the panel print. You can use other fabric lines for the coordinates. If you need information on how to get the fabric, here is a link to a list of stores that have ordered the fabric. I also put a few fabric bundles in my etsy kit shop which you can order.

3. Make a block using the panel blocks either as a whole or by cutting them up (see ideas later in this post). The block design doesn't have to be your design, we just want creative ways to use the panel. The blocks can be any size.

4. Post a picture of your block (or blocks) on your own blog, on the GE Designs Flickr page or send them to me by e-mail and I will put them on my blog. Make sure you do it before April 6th. Then you have to let me know where you post your picture so I can cross you off my list.

I have recruited a great panel of judges to help me out finding a winner or I should say winners! They come from different aspects of the industry and I will introduce them better in the coming days. We have 2 pattern designers, 2 fabric company personnel and 2 quilt shop owners. I will be the 7th judge just in case there is a tie!!

We will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall winner. Then we will also choose a Designer Favorite, Red Rooster Favorite and Quilt Shop Favorite. On top of that, my blog readers also get to vote for the "Peoples Choice Award".

There are great prizes up for grabs, over $150 dollars worth of quilty goodness; fabrics, books, patterns and more!!

I would love your help to get the word out about the challenge, please share this with your quilting group, guilds, on your blogs, in your groups on Facebook and Twitter and anywhere else. Feel free to use the logo, we would love to have quilters from all over the world participate. 

How it works:

To give you some ideas on how you can cut up the panel blocks and put them back together in a block, I threw these together quickly over the weekend.

 

I started with cutting the panel block into a 7" square, then I cut it into quarters so that each square is 3-1/2". Then I put the squares into a 9" block:

For the next one I had two of the same panel blocks, cut them into 7" and then sliced each one in half diagonally:

Then I made a simple bordered pinwheel block and used the panel print on each side to put it on point:

For the third one I did, I took one panel block, cut it down to 7" and then twice diagonally as shown:

Then I put it in a block as triangles. I fussy cut a flower out of the large floral fabric for the center and used some ric rac for added fun.
