Welcome blog hoppers to Day 4 of What A Novel Idea blog hop, published by Leisure Arts and written by the One And Only Pat Sloan. I say one and only because nobody can work like that chick does!! I think her secret is out....she doesn't sleep and I am sure she gets her meals intravenously! All kidding aside, she has come up with one more brilliant publication, the cutest title and a great topic....Novelty fabrics.
Here is the masterpiece. If you comment on this post, I will be drawing two names and giving you each a copy of the book....and maybe some more....read on!!
If you don't win...sorry....you can get a copy of the book from Leisure Arts. Or you can get an autographed copy of Pat's book here!
I have always loved novelty fabrics and I buy them whenever I see something unique and irresistible....which happens a lot!!
I always pick up cute flannel novelty fabrics because I love using them for backings....like this:

Irresistible right?
I also have 5 yards of this because I am gonna use it for backing for my 2010 Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM.

I also have this little gem for a future "Happy Hour" Quilt. Everybody needs a happy hour quilt right!!

I love making gifts with novelty prints because you can personalize the gift so easily if the recipient really loves something! For example....I live in a fairly new neighborhood, so for the first couple of years there was a lot of construction in the neighborhood.....and therefore, a lot of construction workers around. Some days were hot and steamy so those workers sometimes had to...you know....cool off by taking off some layers! When I found this particular print in a quilt shop...I just couldn't help myself. I made aprons for my girlfriends and encouraged them to wear them outside to go and offer these poor men some refreshments!!

I'm not sure they ever did, but the funny thing is, I found this already cut out apron that I was gonna make for myself so I could match them.......it's still not made!! I'll have to finish it now and really wear it out... to see what happens!!
My favorite quilt in Pat's book is the cover quilt. I wish I had all those fabrics!! The quilt is called Let's Go Camping, hence the trailers and camping gear. We have actually spent quite a few days in a trailer park during the summer so I think Pat should just pass this quilt to me when she is done with it....don't you think so?
If I can't find any of the camping fabrics, I might just have to make it out of my new fabric line Super, which is being introduced in May.....it's got some great large scale prints that could totally work in a novelty quilt....what do you think?

I will show you more of it a little later....this is just a little tease;)
On to some questions I need to answer:
What is your favorite novelty print? Is there one you're currently planning to buy?
I introduced you to some of my novelty prints and I already told you that I have to have some of those camping fabrics if I can get my hands on them! Right now I am on the lookout for some gymnastics fabrics because my younger kids are both gymnasts, and some workout fabrics...yes, of people sweating it out in the gym.....I wouldn't mind if they all looked like the construction workers!!
What is your favorite food to eat?
Chocolate!? That is a separate food group in my house, but I am a chocolate snob....not just any chocolate will do! Other than chocolate, my absolute favorite food is some Icelandic Lobster...broiled with a lot of butter and garlic!!!

Oh...and the glass of wine with it is absolutely crucial.....or the whole bottle for that matter!!
What is one item you would like to add to your studio/workroom if money were no object? Why?
A workforce!!

With a bigger stash....

And a print shop in house??
Then I could almost retire right!!!
No, that's no fun. I dream of a new sewing machine with the large throat space, tie off scissors and all the new fancy stuff.
But I just can't justify getting one when my machine is working just fine and has been without hick ups for almost 8 years. However....if anyone wants to give me one...I sure would appreciate it..Thanks!!
