I - Strip in school colors!

One of my new patterns that was released at quilt market in Houston got a lot of attention from shop owners in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. This is I-Strip.

It is made with 2-1/2" strips and offers 5 different sizes. 

Why all the attention? They were all taking it home and making one in their local school colors! Isn't that a great idea? So of course I had to make mock up quilts in all the school colors I could imagine. 

I think the quilt is a perfect one for a college student. The design works both for a boy or a girl and if the intended recipient is not going to a school in one of the I states, the I should just stand for Independence as they venture onto the next phase in their lives.

Thank you for all of your comments, it was so fun to see your favorite colors you love working with these days. A lot of the same ones that I am in love with right now! 

Here are the 4 new patterns that are at the printer right now and will be showing at Quilt Market next week. Time has just flewn by lately so I was so relieved to get these submitted and on their way. I hope you like them.

Strip Burst is a new strip pattern that is made with 2-1/2" strips plus some background fabric and border fabric (or use one for both) I have been teaching this quilt all over the world this past month....Iceland, Canada and USA count as all over the world right:) If you follow GE Designs on Facebook, you might have spotted some of these blocks from my classes. You will need a 60 degree ruler for this quilt but it goes together really simply. 

Strip Cocoon is  done with 2-1/2" strips only so you can grab a couple of Jelly Rolls or dig into your strip bins and go! The block is fun to put together, using a partial seam method. The quilt comes in 4 sizes. The fabric used on the cover is Elementary by Sweetwater for Moda.

Curvacious is a Quilt as you go Table Runner that was in our first Fast & Furious book. That book is out of print now but we have gotten overwhelming requests for the pattern as it is being used in classes in so many quilt shops. That is why this was the first one I thought of to reissue as a single pattern. The runner on the left is made with my new fabric line coming out real soon, called Victory. More details on that later...

The Strip to the Beach bag was also in that Fast & Furious book and has been requested many times so here it is in a single pattern. I decided to include a simpler and smaller version of the bag in the same pattern as a little bonus. Both are made with the new fabric. 

The patterns will be available at Quilt Market in Pittsburgh next week and will ship to stores right after.

New Patterns on their way to Houston!

The two new patterns are in the house! I am packing right at this moment for Quilt Market in Houston as I have an early morning flight, but wanted to show you the new patterns and photos from my photoshoot.

 All of the patterns are made with the new Hexagon Trim Tool from Creative Grids:

I have been playing with this tool for a couple of months and came up with 4 new projects with it. Two of them are published by me, as a part of my strip pattern series and the other two are published with Checker Distributors through their Cut Loose Press publications.

GE-160 Strip Lash

This is a very fast and easy quilt to make. It's done with 2-1/2" strips only and you can use either the Hexagon Trim Tool, a 60 degree triangle ruler or the Hex N More ruler from Jaybird Quilts. The pattern offers 6 different sizes and you can get it in either printed format or as a PDF pattern in my Etsy Store.

The larger quilt is twin size. I used two Jelly Rolls from Sweetwater's newest fabric line called Wishes. 

The smaller inset picture on the pattern cover is the lap size quilt I made using Timeless Treasures Tonga Treat strips in the Mocha Kiss colorway. One pack of strips makes the lap size quilt.

I pieced both quilts with #Aurifil Mako 50/2 in color 5004 and quilted the lap size using #Aurifil 3660, which is a pink variegated thread. Turned out great!

 

GE-161 Strip To Shore

This is also made with 2-1/2" strips and one other fabric for center hexies, sashing and binding. You can use either the Hexagon Trim Tool, a 60 degree triangle ruler or the Hex N More ruler from Jaybird Quilts for this quilt as well. The pattern offers 4 different sizes and you can get it in either printed format or as a PDF pattern in my Etsy Store.

This is the lap size quilt and it uses One Jelly Roll or Tonga Treat pack. I used fabric from Timeless Treasures called Sketch, which will be sold in precut strip packs really soon! This is the Taffy colorway. The grey dot fabric is from my Nordic Visions line.

The crib size version is made with a jelly roll from the Mixed Bag fabric line from Moda by Studio M. I appologize for this picture being just of the quilt top, I was in a bit of a crunch as I decided to do another colorway. It has now since been quilted with minkee on the back and is packed to go to Houston on display.

The other two patterns will be available exclusively through quilt shops for the Cut loose Press. But I wanted you to see them as well. They use the Hexagon Trim Tool.

Tilt A Whirl Runner

 

For this runner I used fabrics from my Nordic Visions line by Red Rooster. I pieced and quilted it myself with #Aurifil Mako 50/2 col:2311

Hexie Harmony

This is also a jelly roll friendly quilt and takes 38 strips or 1 pack:) I used Timeless Treasures Sketch fabrics (soon to be available in a precut strip assortment) in the Gum Drop colorway. For the background I used Red Roosters Tokyo Pew-1. I quilted this one myself as well using #Aurifil Mako 50/2 colors 5004 and 2692.

New Patterns in the house!

The four new patterns are here! I am really happy with how they turned out and I hope you like them too. They are all Quilt As You Go projects so they go togehter fast. Here they are:

Slivers gives you the option of making a scrappy version and a 3 color version. It also has 2 sizes, the smaller scrappy one uses a charm pack!

Peek A Boo uses a charm squares or some scraps along with some background fabric to create the fun design. No appliqué!

Which Way topper is put together with a Charm pack and a half yard of background fabric. The prairie points are dimensional and make a fun statement.

Abundance will look great on any table and comes together so quickly. Grab 5 fat quarters and dig into that scrap bin for the fun leaves and off you go.

New Homes

Some of my quilts have found new homes and are happily displayed and used which makes me so happy. Here are some pictures of Pinball Wizard in it's new home!

Isn't it just gorgeous? I love the fact that the room was already decorated in all those colors and the quilt looks like it was the inspiration. It also fits the top of the bed so nicely, no need to have the quilts go to the floor, lay it on top of the duvet as decoration.

I am finishing up some new patterns for market that will be ready for reveal next week. Here is a little sneak peek:

New Patterns Spring 2011

Here is the reveal of the new patterns. I will post more about each one and share some more photos of the quilts in different color ways in the coming posts. The patterns are at the printer and will be available on May 10th. We are taking pre orders from quilt shops right now and if you don't own a quilt shop, you can pre order yours right here, so you will get it first!

I am leaving in the morning for Fall Quilt Market and intend to try and blog some things if the app on my will be in working order. I am really looking forward to market this time because I will have some free time to roam the hall. I don't have a booth this time, (a first for me since 2004!) but will be hanging out in the Red Rooster Booth somewhat. My samples will be there and also in the United Notions booth if you are going to be there and want to see the samples up close and personal!!

If you are coming to Houston, my schoolhouse session is at 2:45. I highly encourage you to come because everyone will get a Flair kit to take home!! Don't tell anyone that I told you that;) I would love to see you! I will also be at Sample Spree with my new patterns and a few Flair Fiesta kits!

I went up to the cabin last week to get some sewing done and of course we had to stop at a quilt shop, Quilted Treasures in Rogers, MN. Mary always has some great samples and we saw 3 that were mine and just gorgeous!

Strip Stacks was right in the entrance, done up in beautiful batiks.

I loved this blue and white version of Steamy Windows (in the Strip On book).

Then there was Milky Way (also out of Strip On) made up in these really gorgeous fabrics that sparkled...literally!!

So......during the blog hop I promised to tell you what we were dressing up as for this years Halloween party.....no wig for Torir this year (we couldn't find one that worked for the theme).....we were ARGENTINE TANGO DANCERS!

I found the shirt at Goodwill....in the women's section....yeah, it's got shoulder pads! The pants are my old yoga pants, I altered an old dress to work for me! To really make a statement at the party....we took lessons and performed an Argentine Tango!! It was so much fun, we are definitely continuing with the lessons. I know you want to ask......yes there were red feathers all over the house!!

New Patterns

The new patterns are at the printers and will arrive next week in time for our departure to Quilt Market in Houston. I have 3 new patterns, you saw Fiesta Flair in the last post. Here are the other two:

Strips & Salsa is a strip pattern made with 2-1/2" strips and background fabric. There are 3 size options and then you can choose if you like the vertical set or the horizontal.

Modern Charm Runner is a "Quilt As You Go" runner made with 1 Charm Pack!! It's super fun and quick, great for gifts! We tried many different fabric lines and love every look.

Block of the month

 

Fat Quarter shop has started their sign up for the 2010 Designer Mystery Block of the Month. As you might have seen if you checked it out, my name is among the 12 fabulous designers that designed a block for this years quilt. I was extra super excited to find out too that the block they are using to promote this great BOM is mine!! SSSHHHH....don't tell anyone.....but do tell me what you think of the block!! The fabric line they chose for this is really great and fits the quilt perfectly; 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain for Moda.

 

They start shipping out the blocks in June and then you get fabric and pattern for one block each month. There are limited spots available so I suggest you sign up right away.  I was so excited to see that among the 12 designers participating, there are many of my designer friends there like Heather, Carrie, Sandy and Sherri....so I had to sign up myself!! I don't know how long it has been since I signed up for a block of the month for my private purposes only!! I think this might be the first time! I am so excited about that. So come June, I will be sewing it right along with you. Now hop on over to the Fat Quarter shop and sign up so that you can sew with me, keep me in check and push me to actually finish this!!
